Sputnik KITA (Bern)

In summer 2012 Sputnik opened - the KITA for children between two and six years. Centrally located, between Bern's main train station and the Bern Inselspital and with child-friendly premises of around 200m2. With as much garden space, direct access protected from the outside and a mountain view over the roofs of the city of Bern.

At Sputnik KITA we offer high quality care for children from the age of two until they start school. It is based on the model of English preschools and follows the Montessori pedagogy. Through playing, learning and experiencing, the children are introduced to the diversity of life. For example, meals are prepared together in the children's kitchen, vegetables and fruits are planted in the KITA garden, carrots are counted, and name tags for the herb patch are made and labeled.

Children of kindergarten age are encouraged and prepared for school according to the objectives of the curriculum of the Cantonal Education Department (ERZ). Since kindergarten attendance is mandatory, children must be present at Sputnik Kindergarten at least three full days per week.

For the Sputnik Kindergarten a permit from the ERZ is available.

Our team consists of pedagogically trained professionals of various ages who have additional language skills besides German. One or two interns and one apprentice complete the team. We make sure that both genders are represented.

Today's lifestyle and demands on working parents require flexible childcare. Sputnik KITA meets this demand with opening hours of 12 hours per day and care during school vacations. The company vacations are limited to the calendar weeks 28, 29 as well as 52 and 01. On general holidays (Good Friday; Easter Monday; Ascension Day; Whit Monday; August 1) the KITA remains closed.

Children from 2 years of age until they start school are accepted. For pedagogical reasons, a stay of at least 50% per week is desirable. In justified cases, special arrangements can be made.

Children attending compulsory kindergarten must attend Sputnik kindergarten *for at least three full days.

Familiarization

Parents who are interested in a KITA place are invited with their child to a taster day. If the child is admitted to the Sputnik KITA, careful planning of the settling-in period takes place together with the parents. The settling-in period is usually about two weeks.
