Kinderparadies Altstadt (Luzern)

History

During my time as a city hall mother of Lucerne, the children were especially close to my heart. It was a matter of concern to me that they were in good hands during the day while their parents were working or otherwise running errands. So, with my own money, without any governmental help, I founded the Stiftung Kinderparadies, a childcare service in the old town of Lucerne for children from 1 to 6 years old.

When I visited the children during the pre-Christmas season, they overwhelmed me with their wishes for the Christkindli. This is how the idea for the Christkindli letterbox came about, which was first placed in Lucerne's Town Hall Square on December 1, 1994. One of the first letters, which I opened with great excitement, said:

"Dear Christkindli. If you exist at all, please, please, help me, help me. My husband has been sexually abusing our daughter and I have kept silent. But dear Christ Child help me, help me!"

The letter touched me very much. Since the full address was listed under the desperate letter, both mother and daughter could be helped. This sad story, which unfortunately did not remain the only one of this kind, animated me to start another foundation, the Stiftung Sonneschiin; an emergency aid for sexual abuse.

The Christkindli letterbox developed more and more into a grief and worry box. People of all ages dare to open it and share their concerns and wishes with me. Suffering, sorrow, worries and poverty do not only exist at Christmas time. That is why we take care of these people all year round. This only works thanks to donations, volunteers and benevolent members of the foundation board who actively support me throughout the year.

Sometimes when I see all the misery and poverty around me, I wish, like in a fairy tale, for a little tree that I could shake to fulfill all the wishes of young and old.

Purpose Kinderparadies Altstadt is a family-friendly childcare service. We look after your children for half a day or by the hour.

We welcome parents and their children or infants.

We also offer you the opportunity to simply nurse your child, change diapers or rest for a while.

A paradise for parents and children

For 30 years now, the "Kinderparadies Altstadt" has been a great relief for many mothers and fathers. Located in the heart of Lucerne's old town, it offers a professionally supervised childcare service. A new addition is a room where mothers can breastfeed, change diapers or rest their children. This room is called "Dream Factory".

**Opening hours Monday to Friday from 7.30 - 19.00 continuously.

**Donations

The Kinderparadies Altstadt is run without public support. The fees for the visit are set according to the financial possibilities of the parents. Therefore, we regularly rely on financial donations from private individuals. Donations in kind such as children's toys etc. are also welcome, but please only after prior arrangement.
