If you take a look through the gate of the former Burgerspital, you can already see what makes this daycare center so special. Not only its central location next to Bern's main railway station, but also the large inner courtyard where children can run, balance or ride their bikes. Those who prefer to practise building castles or digging water pits can do so in the large sandpit. Another plus point of the Spittel daycare center is the intergenerational exchange. In addition to the leolea daycare center and the mother and father advice service, the so-called Berner Generationenhaus of the Burgergemeinde Bern also houses an institution for the elderly. The youngest and oldest children meet regularly for joint activities, such as a snack. The daycare center's age-separated care groups are located in the chapel building, where time-honored sandstone walls alternate with charming old rooms, some of which are listed buildings. Through the windows of the spacious activity, creative and bedroom rooms, the view is of the largest traffic junction in the city of Bern - in the middle of which the Spittel daycare center lies like a quiet, child-friendly oasis.
